Eufaula African Drum Class It sounded a little arcane and "out there" some - "Djembi African Drumming Class in Eufaula". But if I've learned anything about the Eufaula Area Arts Council, it is that they always have interesting events, so we went and brought the cameras. It was a small class, mostly grand motherly types and one young man. Their teacher, Zinse Agginie, aka "Mr. Z". Mr. Z had come all the way from Little Rock to teach these classes, two yesteday and two today. Mary Curtis, Patty Tracy, Linda Treubel and Glenna McBride were obviously having a good time. DeAndre Miles' four years of experience on the drums set him off as the most advanced student. The drums sounded pleasant enough, but I really didn't give them a second thought until I checked out Mr. Z's website for background info. Normally, I turn my speakers off in an instant when a web page plays unrequested music, but not this time. The drums and singing were more than beautiful, they were enchanting, causing me to stop writing and just listen for several minutes. See our video of the Eufaula class, then check out the Drum Ballet website.
