Jean looks through a hole In the spring, an old man's thoughts turn to .... tennis! (I guess that makes me really old!) Jean and I headed out to the tennis courts today as the sun shone brightly and the mercury climbed just past seventy. As we turned onto Avenue J, we could see that the baseball fields were all in use and we hoped at least one of the two tennis courts might be free. Exiting the car, we found that both courts were empty and we could see why. The nets were drooping and both had big holes. One net was barely attached at the top and the bottom flapped in the wind...
Where's my tennis ball? The grass was over two feet high in places - high enough to refuse to give up wayward tennis balls. Weeds grew high along the backfield line, high enough to effectively shorten the length of the court. The court surface looked sad and we didn't stay long enough to see if the lights worked. In years past, we've met many other tennis players on the Eufaula tennis courts. We've given old rackets and tennis balls to kids and encouraged them to learn the game. It would be sad if Eufaula let the courts fall into the level of disrepair that the golf course fell into. Maybe they're looking to give the tennis courts away to the Creek Nation also. <LOL> If you're interested in seeing what can be done to save our tennis courts, please post a message in our forums or send me an email (use our contact form), or both. Maybe we can help the city put the courts back in good shape in time for the kids (and older kids like me!) to use them this summer. |
