Jean and I headed out to Eufaula, then on to Lake Eufaula's Fountainhead Golf Course, to get your opinions. At the Phillips 66 gas station andconvenience store, clerks said that customers hadn't been talking much about the golf course issue. At the lakeshore, we talked to a fellow who was fishing. "I can't go on camera.", he said. When I asked, "Why not?", he stated that he was a member of the Creek Nation and an employee, and said that people might think he was prejudiced. I told him that was alright because we wanted to present all sides of the issue and we certainly didn't want to leave out Creek Nation's side. But then he said he still couldn't talk on camera. I again asked, "Why not?". This time, his answer surprised me, "Because I have conflicted feelings about it, after all, I play golf there too." It was an entirely different matter at the golf course. The first group of about a half-dozen golfers we approached, were very familiar with the issue, and not too happy about it either. But no one wanted to appear on camera. They said that they felt the deal had been sealed behind the public's back and it was a "done deal" and nothing they could say or do would change anything. Another group had similar opinions. Then we finally came upon a couple of gentlemen who seemed to be in favor of Creek Nation taking over the course and didn't mind saying so on camera.
