(index.php/Ironheads-Graduation.html) We thought there would be an official videographer, so we only came prepared to shoot a thirty second segment of cap-tossing. When we saw there was no other videographer, we decided to shoot the entire ceremony, start to finish. Had we known there would not be official coverage, we would have done this properly with at least four cameras, audio tap of the sound system, etc. We spoke with the principal and will be prepared to cover next year's graduation properly. One year, it was the kitchen sink! I'd been a bit lazy and hadn't washed the dinner dishes from night before. The redhead decided to take a dip - bad decision - and the next morning, before coffee, I plunged my bare hands into the dishwater to finish my chore. Our nearest neighbors are a quarter mile away, but they were probably awakened by my blood-curtling scream (most unmanly!) as I pulled out a ten-inch redhead that had drowned and got caught up in the dish rag.Well, that cured me of leaving dishes overnight! This year, we found our first redhead trapped on our screened porch, seemingly frustrated at not being able to find a way out. After photos and video, we (gingerly) trapped him in a bucket and released him into the woods near the banks of Lake Eufaula.Check out this week's Eufaula Lakeshore video (index.php/Around-the-Lakeshore.html) for carnival storm coverage, centipede close-ups and a story about phone line vandalism. text/html 2008-05-11T08:46:31+01:00 http://eufaulalakers.com http://eufaulalakers.com/index.php/News/Lake-Eufaula-UnDamaged.html At about five-twenty yesterday evening, a large tornado was reported on the ground in the area of Crowder and moving toward Quinton, however an hour later, driving from Enterprise, through Quinton, Featherston, Blocker, Bristow Point and Crowder there was no evidence of storm damage and no one we talked to had heard of any.At the Eufaula marina, last night, restaurants were serving customers and everything seemed normal. The Eufaula Carnival was full of kids enjoying rides and parents enjoying the cool evening breeze. Longtown had no damage, but there was widespread power outtage overnight that started around seven pm. Most of Longtown had electricity by six this morning, but some areas were without power until 10:30am Sunday. Unfortunately, other areas were less fortunate.The area of Haywood, just south of McAlester, reported houses damaged by a tornado. There were reports of damage to homes and power lines in the rural areas outside Clayton in Pushmataha County. People are reportedly trapped in their storm cellars in Pittsburg County near Yanush. I am saddenned for Mrs. Pearce and her husband and sorry for their loss. But it seems they failed to understand an important lesson that should have been learned by this, a lesson that others should take heed of.Last month, I was driving down Piney Creek Road near Brooken Mountain Road and having a discussion with my wife. Perhaps I wasn't paying as much attention to driving as I should have. Suddenly, something darted into the road, right in front of me. Instinctively, I swerved to avoid it, right into the path of a car coming the opposite direction. Immediately, I was thinking, of course it will save money - we won't have to print everything in multiple languages! . Also, I felt that the United States of America is an English-speaking country (OK, a dialect of English , if you prefer!) and those who come to live and work here should adapt to our language, if not our customs. I didn't see what this had to do with hatred and bigotry....until I read Just My Opinion , by Marilyn Leader, in the May 1, 2008 Indian Journal.
